What is “Philosophy”
I’ll just put one definition because there are many, this is the definition according to the department of Philosophy of the University Of Florida.
“Quite literally, the term “philosophy” means, “love of wisdom.” In a broad sense, philosophy is an activity people undertake when they seek to understand fundamental truths about themselves, the world in which they live, and their relationships to the world and to each other.”
So how does this apply to photography?
You could say that the philosophy of photography is the opposite of the technical part of photography.
When you are taking photos you either focus on the techniques or you focus on the feelings of the image, if you can do both then you are a very fortunate human.
Imagine you go out to take photos or you go to a studio, and your only guide is what you feel, if it feels good you take the photo if it doesn’t you do not, that’s basically taking photos by feelings instead of by techniques. That experience of learning to take photos by feelings and accumulating those feelings is wisdom, the love of wisdom. By doing that you will also start to understand the fundamental truth about yourself, the world in which you live and the relationship between you and the rest of humanity.
So you see there’s much more than just the F stop.
